Ettumanoor is an ancient town. It is blessed with Ettumanoorappan (Mahadeva Temple), Christ the King Church, and Muslim Mosque.
The Christian heritage has a direct link with the Mahadevar Temple. Hundreds of years ago, one of the priests found some bad incidents and advised the temple authorities to sponsor some genuine christians (Family baptised by St Thomas) and establish them by providing land and other facilities and asked for some services in return (like Flowers and Kaanikka for festivities).
Ettumanoor is also famous for the cinema actor, S P Pillai and now his grant daughter Manju Pillai. Politicians like late Podipara started his political life in Ettumanoor.
Also, Ettumanoor was a key player during the Vimochana Samaram. It is famous for the religious harmony which was noticed by the satyagraha by catholic youth movement at Padinjarenada when the idol (in Thankam) was stolen in early 80's.
Writer Ettumanur Chandrashekharan, VKB(Manorama), Ettumanoor Joseph Mathew (Deepika} are few of the literary geniuses of this town. Ettumanoor also produced a long list of justices, judges and lawyers. World famous Athirampuzha Palli is only 2 KM from Ettu manoor. It has been a small place of 100% literacy for decades mainly because of the private and public schools, colleges, medical college, technology institutes and of course Srimoolam librarywith hundreds of years of history.
Eventhough I am in North America, I still love a small but rich town called Ettumanoor...... .
